Summary

Map shows contemporary world population. Countries are enlarged/squeezed in accordance with their relative population size. Countries are also colored differently in order to highlight their relative sizes. A list of countries with their names is also provided.

Population Cartogram with data from the Gridded Population of the World

The following cartogram was created using a variant of the diffusion algorithm of Gastner and Newman, with data from the Gridded Population of the World compiled by the International Center for Earth Science at Columbia University. The population data seems to be for the year 2000.
