Croplands of the World in the 21st Century - changes over the period 1977-2100

Summary

This map shows the changes in the spatial distribution of potential croplands worldwide over the period of 1977–2100 according to the prediction of transient climate change.

The main purpose of the image is to reflect to what extent transient climate change in the 21st Century -over the period 1977-2100- will affect the coverage and spatial distribution of croplands in the world.

"Percentages in the color legend represent the number of years a grid cell is suitable for cropland over the 124-year simulation in the study."

Color legend indicates the following:

  • Blue: Wetland
  • Red: 1-10%
  • Brown: 10-20%
  • Light Brown: 20-30%
  • Pale Pink: 30-40%
  • Yellow: 40-50%
  • Green: 50-60%
  • Pale Blue: 60-70%
  • Turquoise: 70-80%
  • Dark Brown: 80-90%
  • Dark Green: 90-100%
