Summary
This map of West Africa shows the sources of slaves for the Atlantic slave trade. The major slave ports are identified as Elmina, Accra, Lagos, Cabinda, and Benguela.
"Most of the Africans captured by European and American slave traders belonged to the Malinke, Ouidah, Yoruba, Oyo, Hausa, Igbo, and Bantu groups [shown in red]. Some Africans — including people from the Fante, Ashanti, Dahomey, Benin, Efik, Kongo, and Ndongo groups [shown in black] — aided slave traders in the capture of other Africans."
The locations of the "Grain Coast", "Ivory Coast", and "Gold Coast" are also indicated.
