Internal Administrative Procedures

The pages linked to below document a number of procedures to be used by Blackboard administrators. Please keep them up to date as procedures change. Although the source code is the ultimate documentation, specifications and descriptions should be kept in the pages below.

Emergency Procedures

These pages document how to deal with a number of urgent problems such as the need for an Oracle Database fail over (and recovery)or initial procedures for handling an application outage. These pages also cover responses to some Tivoli warning messages.

Procedures for Updating the Blackboard Application

Even applying a hot fix takes a number of steps. These pages deal with what steps to take for most system changes, from running PushConfigUpdates.sh to updating the installation to a new application pack or version.

Procedures to maintain locally added features

Blackboard at Princeton runs with a number of customizations. Some of these customizations are provided with Building Blocks, either built locally or received from other developers. Other customizations are made directly to Blackboard through both supported options and unsupported modifications.
