Simple transclusion
Using Template:Transclude
Using a template has several advantages, including being easily able to find where the template has been used.
For pages in the Image: namespace, there is another reason to use Template:Transclude specifically: it supports the generation of thumbnails.
Naive Use of Template:Transclude
Using this template naively produces an image of a fixed size, but it often looks smudged (because the browser does the resizing):

An uploaded image can be easily resized without losing quality, e.g.
Using transclusion to create the Image: page
Using transclusion to create an Image: page has several advantages, e.g.
- the copyright and attribution information can be kept together in one place.
- if the source image becomes unavailable (temporarily or permanently), the thumbnail will still be available.
As always, it's easy to refer to the description page, like so:
In practice, this works well in conjunction with using transclusion on the page in question.
It is also easy to embed the automatically-generated thumbnail (with the appropriate hyperlink), like so:
