The {{qed}} service is structured into "[[Help:namespace|namespace]]s" such as '''Help:''', '''Course:''' and '''User:'''.  The Course: namespace is for courses. Only logged-in users can read pages in the Course: namespace, and additional access restrictions can be imposed as described below.

If you are a participant in a course for which access to the {{qed}} pages has been restricted, then you will have to login using the '''Wiki''' link for the course
in [https://blackboard.princeton.edu/webapps/login Blackboard]. You should subsequently be able to access the {{qed}} pages for the course by logging in to {{qed}} directly. Of course, you will still be able to use the Wiki link in Blackboard, which will take you directly to the main page for the course on {{qed}}.

==Navigation==
The home page on {{qed}} for most courses can be directly accessed using the ''search'' box above the '''Go''' button:
* Type ''Course:'' followed immediately by the standard course identifier, e.g. Course:AST554
* Click the '''Go''' button

In some cases, the folder name for a course may not be the standard identifier, but following the procedure above should at least give further information.

One way to find a complete listing of course pages (or a complete listing of pages for a course) is to click on the '''Index''' button in the ''navigation'' box on the left, and then select the ''Course:'' namespace. Equivalently, click
[http://{{servername}}/index.php?title=Special%3AAllpages&from=&namespace=102 here] to go there now.

==Page Names==
One way to create a new page in the folder for a course (say ABC123) is to prefix its name with ''Course:ABC123/'' (e.g. Course:ABC123/Tips). Another way is to use [[Help:relative links|relative links]] as illustrated in the example below.

On {{qed}}, the "/" character in page names is used for creating a hierarchical structure in a way that is roughly similar to the hierarchical directory structures of computer operating systems. However on {{qed}} one should never begin a page name with a "/". 

===Example===
To create a "Tips" page in connection with the Course:ABC123 folder, you could enter the following text on the Course:ABC123 page: <nowiki>[[/Tips]]</nowiki> 

This would be equivalent to entering the much more verbose text: <nowiki>[[Course:ABC123/Tips|Tips]]</nowiki>.

===Organization===
Generally, the organization of pages within the Course: namespace should be as "flat" as possible. This does '''not''' imply that the overall organization needs to be flat. For example, each page can have multiple layers of organization within it.  However we suggest avoiding "Course:ABC123/2005/Student/Project/Einstein on the Fritz" in favor of "Course:ABC123/2005/Einstein on the Fritz".

==Page Contents==
One way to support navigation is to include a dynamically-generated list of subpages by inserting the following string  at the desired insertion point:

Another way to support navigation within a course (say, CLA216) is to use a navigation template. For example, if a [[Help:Template|template]] named CLA216 has been suitably defined, one would include it as follows:

==Access Restrictions==
On {{qed}}:
* write-access is always limited to logged-in users;
* within the Course: namespace, read-access is also limited to logged-in users. 

Instructors can impose more restrictive policies &mdash;
* on a course-by-course basis &mdash; see [[Help:Blackboard]]
* on a page-by-page basis &mdash; see [[{{SITENAME}}:Category-Based Access Restrictions|Category-Based Access Restrictions]]
