QED supports guest accounts. These are intended to allow sponsors to authorize individuals who do not have a Princeton netid to access one or more specific folders that would otherwise be inaccessible.

Currently, a guest account is defined to be one which has the form of an email address, e.g. smith@jamestown.edu, that is, it has an embedded "@" character.

Guest Privileges

In addition to the access rights of an anonymous user, a guest as defined here has the following privileges:

  • The ability to adjust settings in my preferences.
  • The ability to edit his or her own home page (e.g. User:Smith@jamestown.edu), the subpages thereof, and the corresponding discussion pages.
  • The ability to read pages in each folder in the Course:, Princeton:, and/or Project: namespaces for which explicit permission to do so has been granted.
  • The ability to edit pages in each folder for which explicit permission to do so has been granted.
  • The ability to view pages that have been made inaccessible to anonymous users using the "Restricted:Princeton" flag.

Notes for Folder Administrators

The full guest id in canonical form should be added to the read: or edit: page as required. In practice, this means capitalizing the first letter, but none others, e.g. Smith@jamestown.edu

The canonical form can be checked at Special:Listusers. See Help:ACL for further details.

To grant access to all Princeton netids, add @princeton.edu to the access control list.

New Guest Accounts

To request a new guest account, please send mail to qed@princeton.edu, giving the full name and email address of the guest. Unless you request otherwise, we will notify the guest when the account has been created.

Please ensure that the guest is aware of the QED Terms of Use and that use of a guest account indicates agreement with these terms.
