Jmol is a widely-used program that supports viewing three-dimensional chemical structures interactively and stereoscopically. The J in Jmol stands for Java. The Jmol extension for MediaWiki has been installed on the qed website, allowing one to embed one or more Jmol windows within regular pages. It also allows "popup Jmol applets" to be displayed. If your browser is configured to allow Java applications, then you should be able to see a Jmol window by clicking here. Please allow 10 to 15 seconds for the applet to load. ==Using the Jmol Extension== One can embed a Jmol "applet" on a page by referring to data on a remote site, in an uploaded file, on a separate page, or by including the data on the page itself. The example on the discussion page of this page includes the data on the page itself. Buttons and other types of controls can also be added. See for details. ===Restrictions on uploading files=== This website restricts the types of files that may be uploaded based on the suffix of the file name. There is also a limit on the size of files that can be uploaded. For a dynamically generated list of file suffixes that are currently allowed, see QED Variables. This page also shows the current limit on the file size. If you need to upload a larger file than is currently allowed, or if you need to upload a file type that is not currently supported, please send EMAIL AN ADMIN. ==Jmol Documentation and Tutorials== The main page of the Jmol wiki has a section on documentation and another on tutorials. ==Versions== * MediaWiki Jmol extension version 0.1 (with efficiency enhancements for qed) * Jmol 11.2.4 (the most recent stable version as of July 7, 2007) == See also== * Chemical Markup Language * Proteopedia — uses Jmol to display macromolecular 3D structures
