If you are using MSIE and are receiving multiple popup warnings that "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items", simply remove the "s" from "https:" in the address bar. Doing this once after logging in will generally suffice.

Alternatively, you may wish to configure MSIE to avoid or disable such warnings, as explained in the following two sections. Another alternative is to use a different browser.

Avoiding the "Mixed Content" Security Warning

The "mixed content" security warning occurs on QED pages that use the Google Maps service. To avoid these warnings on pages that use this service:

  1. Select "Tools" in the MSIE menu bar.
  2. Select "Internet Options..." from the drop down menu.
  3. Click on the "Security" tab.
  4. Click on "Trusted sites" and then "Sites".
  5. In the text input box labeled "Add this website to the zone:", enter the following: http://maps.google.com
  6. Click "Add", then "Close", and then "OK".
  7. Click on "Internet".
  8. Click "Custom level...".
  9. Scroll down to find the heading "Miscellaneous".
  10. Find the sub-heading "Display Mixed Content".
  11. Select Enable.
  12. Click "OK", then "Yes", then "OK".

Disabling the "Mixed Content" Security Warnings Altogether

To disable the security warnings altogether, follow these steps:

  1. Select "Tools" in the MSIE menu bar.
  2. Select "Internet Options..." from the drop down menu.
  3. Click on the "Security" tab.
  4. Click on "Internet".
  5. Click "Custom level...".
  6. Scroll down to find the heading "Miscellaneous".
  7. Find the sub-heading "Display Mixed Content".
  8. Select Enable.
  9. Click OK.
  10. In response to ‘Are you sure you want to change the security settings for this zone?’ click Yes.
  11. Click OK to close the Internet Options box.
