Alternatives to uploading a PDF file
Before uploading a PDF file, please consider the pros and cons of converting it to an alternative format, such as wiki markup or a mixture of wiki markup and HTML. See Help:Import for information about tools and strategies for doing so.
If the PDF file contains images that are unsuitable for display using a standard image format such as JPEG (.jpg), the DjVu format may be worth considering.
Here is a checklist of some points to consider:
- ability to search for text using the QED Search capability
- the need for hyperlinks into the PDF text
- time-to-view
- file size
- ease of updating
- consistency of user experience
- cost of conversion
Troubleshooting
- My browser is trying to open the PDF file description page (Image:*.pdf) as a PDF file.
- This is probably because of a Firefox "PDF Download" plug-in. You may need to disable or remove the plug-in.
