Help:Target
From QED
Typically, when a user follows a link by simply clicking on it, the page will open in the same browser window.
On QED this is true for internal links (such as this one) and for external links such as this one. In these cases, the link's target is said to be the current window.
Depending on the browser you are using, you may be able to specify the target. For example, in Firefox, the user can determine whether the link will be opened in a new tab or window by right-clicking the link.
Opening a link in a new tab or window
It is possible for the author of a web page to specify each link's target explicitly.
On QED, a template is provided both to simplify the procedure and to give some consistency to the visual presentation of the link.
For example:
{{target|http://www.princeton.edu}} produces http://www.princeton.edu
{{target|http://www.princeton.edu|Princeton University}} produces Princeton University
If you click on either of these two links, the target page should open in a new tab or window, depending on the browser you are using.
For further details, see Template:target.
