{{QED}} is a web-based [[wikipedia:Content_Management_System|Content Creation and Management System]] based on [[wikipedia:MediaWiki|MediaWiki]] software. This means that once you have logged in, you can start making contributions, but if you have not done so before, please read this page first.

Most of the content on {{QED}} is organized into [[Help:Folder|folders]]. For example, public pages that are part of the ''Mapping Globalization'' project are in the '''MG''' folder, which consists of the main page, [[MG]], together with pages beginning with the prefix ''MG/''.  Each folder may impose read-access restrictions as well as write-access restrictions to pages within the folder.  Independently of such folder-based access restrictions, write-access may also be restricted at the discretion of the {{QED}} administrators. 

For further details about making contributions, press on the '''Contributions''' button in the ''navigation'' box, or press [[{{SITENAME}}:Contributions|here]].

==Components==
{{qed}} may be thought of as a combination of the following:

* A MediaWiki{{wp|MediaWiki}} engine with site-specific configuration settings
* Site-specific policies (described in the following section)
* Site-specific [[Help:Template|templates]] and [[Help:Extensions|extensions]]
* Site-specific modifications such as [[{{SITENAME}}:Folder-Based_Access_Restrictions|folder-based access restrictions]].

Please note that some of these ingredients are subject to change.
