Template:Archive
From QED
Usage: {{archive|URL}} or {{archive|URL|alternative text}} where URL is the original URL.
This template offers one simple alternative for dealing with "dead links".
Suppose that "oldURL" is a valid URL to a page that no longer exists, but that a satisfactory copy of that page exists at web.archive.org. Then references such as [oldURL interesting link] can simply or even automatically be replaced by {{archive|oldURL|interesting link}}.
Here's an actual example:
- [http://infoshare1.princeton.edu/katmandu/electronic/ejpage.html ejpage] produces ejpage
- {{archive|http://infoshare1.princeton.edu/katmandu/electronic/ejpage.html|ejpage}} produces ejpage
Linking to a specific archive.org URL
If you have a specific archive.org URL that you would like to use, then you can of course use it like any other URL, but if you wish to highlight the fact that the link refers to a resource on archive.org, consider using Template:archived, e.g.
- {{archived|http://web.archive.org/web/20060711214816/www.brunswick.k12.me.us/bjh/depart/curric/slavejourney/images/map1.jpg}}
produces a link to the image as follows:
