What is Almagest?

Almagest is a media management, presentation, and authoring tool.

As a media management tool, Almagest serves as an online repository for digital media, including images, video, audio, animations, and text files, as well as files created in applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Using the features of Almagest, digital media can be stored, cataloged, annotated, and retrieved over the Web — from anywhere, at anytime, and by faculty, staff, and students, alike.

As a presentation tool, Almagest provides both random access (searches and exploration) and structured access (custom lectures) to the digital media, for in-classroom presentations and out-of-classroom assignments or study. The advanced search capabilities of Almagest allow users to browse the Almagest database for stored media that matches search criteria specified by the user. Replacing the old carousel slide projector, media can be organized into custom Lectures for display in the classroom or for private display on personal computers using a standard Web browser.
