Category:VRA Core 4.0

At the time of writing, VRA Core 4.0 (the Visual Research Association Data Standards Committee proposed standard for Core Categories) was in draft form.

Some of the proposed VRA 4.0 categories seem to correspond precisely to QED categories, and where this is the case, the QED category has been accordingly categorized. In particular:

  • two of the key categories (Collection and Image) are mapped directly to QED categories with the same name;
  • "Rights" has been mapped to Category:Right

The VRA Core 4.0 draft often uses the term "element" and in some cases (e.g. TEXTREF) it is not always clear whether such elements are intended to correspond to a class of entities or to an attribute or field. Until there is further stability and clarity, the following VRA Core 4.0 elements have not been defined as QED categories:

Work This is a combination of "Object" and "Performance". It seems to correspond to Category:Man-Made_Thing.
Work Type A subclass of Category:Type, but it is unclear how this relates to other standards.
Agent Apparently a synonym for Category:Actor
Technique Perhaps synonymous with Category:Design or Procedure
Location Apparently a synonym for Category:Place
TEXTREF Is this a class or an attribute?
STATE EDITION Apparently an attribute
STYLE PERIOD Apparently a synonym for or subclass of Category:Period
SUBJECT This seems to correspond closely to the CRM "depicts", "shows visual item", and "represents" relationships.
DESCRIPTION This seems to be an attribute.
SOURCE Is this an attribute? How is it related to Category:Authority Document?
