Audio files of various types can be uploaded to QED, and uploaded audio files as well as others can be played by clicking on a hyperlink.

Currently, uploaded file types are restricted to .ogg .wav .mp3

To play the files, some setup may be needed.

To find out if you can play .ogg files on the device you are currently using, simply click to listen to Wiktionary being pronounced (subject to Wiktionary licensing restrictions).

Audio .ogg Setup

To download the necessary software for listening to .ogg audio files, you can start at http://www.vorbis.com/setup, where there are instructions for Windows, Mac OSX, Linux, OS/2, and PocketPC.

Windows

If you want to use Windows Media Player to play .ogg files, one way to proceed is as follows:

  1. download the setup program at http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/downloads.html#stable
  2. run the setup program
  3. click on an .ogg audio file
  4. if you are asked whether to "Save to disk", select Browse instead, and then select Windows Media Player

Now try the above audio link again. If you are asked whether to open the file with "ogg_auto_file", check the box that asks you for permission to do the same thing in the future.
