Help:Editing Privileges
From QED
On QED, only logged-in users may edit pages or upload files.
Logged-in users can create new pages, upload files, and edit existing pages unless a specific editing restriction has been imposed. There are four types of editing restrictions:
- namespace-based editing restrictions
- Guests have limited editing privileges in the Course:, Princeton: and Project: namespaces.
- Pages in the User: namespace can only be edited by the user when logged in, or by QED administrators; for example, the page named User:tiger and all pages with names beginning with the string "User:tiger/" can only be edited by the person logged in under the name tiger.
- folder-based editing restrictions
- Folder administrators can limit editing privileges within a folder based on ACLs (access control lists) — see QED:Folder-Based Access Restrictions.
- category-based editing restrictions
- Write-access to pages that have been placed in Category:Protected may also be limited — see QED:Category-Based Access Restrictions.
- page-based editing restrictions
- A page which has been specifically flagged as protected can only be edited by someone with the "protection" privilege. The history of the page will show who protected the page and when it was protected.
