If you see one or both of the following icons on a page, you should be able to click on one of the associated links to view the geographic data file using Google Earth or Google Maps:

Google Earth icon: google_earth_link.gif
Google Maps icon:  icong10px.png

Here is an example: /images/7/7f/Muslmrtes.kmz http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=http://qed.princeton.edu//images/7/7f/Muslmrtes.kmz Muslim Routes(help ยท info)

In this case, the hovertext associated with the two icons explains what to do.

A .kmz file is a standard "zip" file containing geographic data files conforming to the KML specification.

You can upload a .kmz file to QED in the normal way using the Upload file link in the toolbox.

Notes for Editors

The above example was produced using Template:GoogleEarthMaps as follows:

{{GoogleEarthMaps|Muslmrtes.kmz|Muslim Routes}}

Separate templates are also available for Google Earth (Template:GoogleEarth) and Google Maps (Template:GoogleMaps). See the links below for further details.
