If you can use a mouse, the simplest way to select and deselect items in a List Box is with the left-mouse button. In particular, the "Ctrl left-mouse" combination acts as a toggle for selecting or deselecting an item. Further details and alternatives are described below.
How to make one or more selections from a List Box that allows multiple selections
The following table shows various techniques for selecting and deselecting items in a List Box that allows multiple selections.
"Ctrl" signifies holding down the "control" key while taking the indicated action, and similarly for "Shift". "<Up/Down>" refers to the up and down keys.

(*) In Microsoft Internet Explorer, press <Shift+F8> to move the cursor without changing the selection. You can then press <Space> to select additional items or to deselect selections. To return to the standard mode of operation, either change focus out of the box, or press <Shift+F8> a second time.
