Help:Restrictions

There are several mechanisms governing read and/or write access to individual QED pages and to groups of pages. However, there is a single overarching principle: that the most restrictive applicable restriction always applies.
Some access restrictions are fixed by policy. For details about such restrictions, see QED:Policies.
Currently, administrative rights are needed to impose most access restrictions. However:
- if you want to restrict read-access to a specific page to logged in members of the Princeton University community, you can simply add the tag {{Restricted:Princeton}} to that page. Anyone with editing rights to that page can of course also remove the restriction;
- if you want to hide your own user page or a subpage of it (such as "User:Tiger/no peeking"), add the tag {{Restricted:User}} to the page;
- if you want the ACLs of a folder, say "FOLDER", to govern access to a description page of an uploaded file, then simply add {{Folder:FOLDER}} to the text of that page; this will also effectively limit access to the uploaded file itself, but it should be assumed that even with this restriction in place, anyone with a Princeton netid might be able to view the uploaded file.
