Summary
The two maps together show the contemporary distribution of world population. Each red dot represents 100,000 people.
The map also delineates twelve geographic "realms" as defined by H. J. de Blij and Peter O. Muller, The World Today: Concepts and Regions in Geography, Wiley:
- Europe
- Russia
- North America
- Middle America
- South America
- North Africa/Southwest Asia
- Sub-Saharan Africa
- South Asia
- East Asia
- Southeast Asia
- Austral Realm
- Pacific Realm
An "African Transition Zone" to the north of the boundary between the Sub-Saharan and North Africa/Southwest Asia realms is also mapped.
